I build and revamp websites for small and medium-sized businesses. Find out below how the whole process works, step by step.

Services

New website

Structure, design, implementation and copywriting on request. If you don’t have anything yet, we’ll start with your customers, not with a template.

Revamp the website

The most common scenario: the website still works, but it looks outdated and is a bit of a faff to use on a mobile. The content stays the same; everything else is revamped.

Admin web tools

You can change the text, images and prices yourself wherever it makes sense to do so. At the end, I’ll show you how, with a video recording if you’d like.

Hosting and support

Updates, backups, certificates, availability. You don’t have to worry about a thing, yet you can still switch at any time.

Four steps, four benefits

Speeches

A conversation lasting about an hour, either on the phone, via video call or at your premises. I want to find out what you do, who your customers are and what you want the website to achieve. After that, I’ll tell you straight up whether and how I can help.

Benefit

There is no charge for the initial consultation.

Set the direction

I’ll suggest a structure and design direction; we’ll go through them together and you’ll make the decision. Only then will I draw up a quotation listing the services individually.

Benefit

A fixed price before I start.
No hourly rate.

Building

I’ll get started and keep you updated as I go along, rather than waiting until everything is finished. Two or three rounds of feedback are planned. All you need to provide is the material and the odd go-ahead.

Benefit

Progress reports, engagement through communication.

Vomiting & afterwards

The website will go live; you’ll receive a brief introduction and all the relevant documents. After that, I’ll remain available: I’ll rectify any errors in my work free of charge; anything else will be charged on a time-and-material basis or as part of a support package.

Benefit

Once handover is complete, you will have full control over the data: the domain, content, design and code.

What I work with

Visual Studio Code GitHub Vercel Figma Adobe Photoshop Adobe After Effects Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint

Scaffolding

I write the pages myself in VS Code, manage them privately via GitHub and test them locally or using Vercel. I also use tools I’ve created myself to help with building and editing websites.

Design

I use Figma and selected Adobe programmes for design and image editing. I create quotations and documents using standard Office applications.

Media

I use media provided by you or royalty-free media from the internet. If you have very specific requirements, I may use media that requires a licence or AI-generated media. Subject to agreement.

FAQrequently Asked Questions

Before the start

To be honest, no one can give a reliable answer until we’ve had a chat. The cost depends on how many pages there will be, whether the text and images are already available, and what the website is supposed to do. As a guide: professional websites for SMEs usually cost a four-figure sum; very small sites cost less, whilst online shops and special features cost more. After our initial meeting, you’ll receive a fixed price quote listing the services included: no open-ended hourly billing that might catch you out at the end. What determines the price →

You can do it, and for some people that’s exactly the right approach. The only catch is that the price isn’t quite right: you’re paying with your time. Layout, copy, mobile view, legal matters, updates, it all falls to you. And website builders look like website builders. If your customers decide whether you take your craft seriously before they’ve even made contact, your website is the wrong place to cut corners.

No, that’s normal and it’s my job. We go through your clients, your services and your objectives, and that’s how the website takes shape. A request along the lines of ‘just make something nice’ almost always results in everything having to be redone two years later. That’s why we discuss it beforehand.

That’s a fair question. Here’s why: you have full access to everything; the site runs on standard technology without the need for bespoke solutions; and any other specialist can take over. In the event of a prolonged absence, I’ll arrange for colleagues to step in. The advantage remains: you’ll always be dealing with the same person, rather than a succession of project managers.

Whilst

For a compact company website, I allow three to six weeks from the start. The biggest factor in terms of time is usually you: content, images, approvals. Once the material is ready, things move much faster. For larger projects, I’ll let you know in advance, and if something isn’t going to be ready on time, you’ll hear it from me, you won’t have to ask.

Not much, but not nothing either. Realistically: an initial meeting of about an hour, one session to gather materials, and two to three rounds of feedback. I’ll take care of the technical aspects, structure and implementation. I can help with the copy if you’d like; you don’t need to be a copywriter.

Yes, always, and at no extra cost. The majority of your visitors access your site via their mobile phones. I build and test every page on mobile, tablet and desktop.

A legal notice and privacy policy are required, as is a proper cookie notice if cookies are set at all, though often they aren’t needed. I’m building the site with data protection in mind: no unnecessary third-party services, and form data is kept to a minimum. This does not constitute legal advice; for specific cases, we’ll consult a specialist.

After that

Yes. The domain, content, design and code all belong to you, and you’ll be given full access to everything. It’s not one of those set-ups where you pay a monthly fee and end up with nothing if you decide to move elsewhere. For security reasons, the hosting is managed by me, but if you have your own hosting solution and wish to keep it, that’s fine too.

In principle, I handle the hosting so that you don’t have to worry about a thing. Security updates are installed promptly, regular backups are carried out, and certificates are renewed. Should any problems arise, I’ll always try to be on hand to help. If you already have your own solution, then the responsibility for security and updates lies with you.

Yes. I’ll set up the website so that you can update the text, images and prices yourself, and I’ll show you how in a brief tutorial at the end, including a recording for you to watch later, if you’d like. If you don’t want to do anything yourself, I’ll make the changes for you on a time-and-materials basis.

Then please get in touch. I’ll rectify any errors arising from my work free of charge. For everything else, I either charge on a time-and-materials basis or offer a support package including updates, backups and security, this is optional, not a requirement.

I always cover the technical basics: fast loading times, a logical structure, a clean layout, Google registration and mobile optimisation. That’s the foundation. For highly competitive search terms, you’ll also need to work on your content on an ongoing basis. I’ll be honest with you about whether that’s worth it for you. Nobody can promise the number one spot; I wouldn’t hire anyone who did.
